There is more to think about as far as donating or banking your child’s cord blood then just what may happen to your child. There are plenty of conditions that can be treated in this matter. In fact, each day there is likely to be a new development in whom and what can be treated with these very powerful stem cells. If you are considering this process but are unsure of whether the amount of cost is worth it, take into consideration how you can benefit from having this blood banked for future use. While the decision can only be made from you, it is essential to take into consideration all ways you can benefit. For example, if your child is completely healthy and you bank his blood, then a sibling is born that is in need of help, your first child’s banked blood can be used to help treat that second child. In many cases, there are matches here that could not be found otherwise. Siblings often are the closest matches for donor blood and stems cells are the ideal type of transplant to consider. Another example is other family members. You can bank your baby’s blood and then later find out that you, your spouse, even a relative that is more distant may be able to use those stem cells to save their life. While it may be harder to insure that the match is here, there is likely to be an increased use for the stem cells if you allow anyone in your family to benefit from them should the need come. There are plenty of people that can benefit including your child. Although he is beautiful and completely healthy right now, it takes a virus or exposure to something toxic to change just about everything around. |
